A Poem Entitled
My Friend Mike
All those years I look back now, the friend that now is gone.
His family in tears that wont seem to go
I'm torn and hurt, my soul
A friend that was, is still within
Ill never let that go
Youngsters we were now grown old.
Never a fight or a fuss
that's what I see when I look back now, a friend from the very first
Hard times were many, good times as well.
Memories still here for me of my friend
The things we did when we were younger you see
played a big part of the ending we see
what was fun and the thing to do
captured us both and refused to leave
Just kids that should have known better
but were not able to see
the road that laid before us
a victim we believe
of a hopeless condition that only God can relieve
My friend Mike was a Christian in belief
that lived with a faith that only God can bless
that faith that we are sinners and all men the same
that if only we call out on Jesus as our Savior, home to Heaven we'd be
when our time on earth was up and behind our friends we leave
On that day of this belief God heard his prayer for relief
And wrote his name down for that day when he'd leave
so when he knocked he'd not forget the promise of our lord
And thru those gates with a blast my friend Mike must go.
On the night the crash was heard
time stopped with a breeze
as the angels gathered to escort my friend
I know because of his belief, that to Heaven he must be
the angels had their orders from creation you see.
Upon that time of death on earth
Gather up my seed
Upon my son they must confess
And to me bring them that heed
Sinners no more because, they believe
I will honor my word
They belong to me
Their homes are prepared
Finished for them to see
So get him and bring him upon that cool night
So his mansion he may see.
The things left behind him will not be missed
For we have time now to sit and rest
To talk things out the way that I planned
The things of Heaven for my friend
Mike was a good guy most all of his life
a few mistakes yes like you and I
just a sinner by grace saved like the rest
so as we say goodbye to a friend
remember the one thing that Mike my friend did
He confessed that his Savior was Jesus the Lord
He repented for his sins
He was covered by Jesus blood
as when he was baptized you see.
The Lord is the Judge not you or I thank God
But this I choose to believe
That like my friend Mike
I choose the same
Even though it might not seem
The Lord knows my heart and you only see
the outside the bad the ugly the real me
But on the inside like Mike I believe
That God will forgive me
if I only believe.
A loss here on Earth a Friend now is gone
A reward in Heaven and his Final Home
We will miss him
But God had a need
And this I remember
A Friend is what Id like to be.
