Tennessee State Smoking Ban went into effect October 1, 2007. Well I don't know about you but this was quite a big deal for many AA groups in the state of Tennessee. One of those outside issues, you know the ones I'm talking about. "Where you have to go outside to get a breath of Fresh Air" It's interesting asking different people if Alcoholics Anonymous is open to the public. Try it. There are as many opinions as there are people asked. Some AA groups post in newspaper advertisements that they are Open To The Public. Bottom line is this, " If a place is open to the public then the Tennessee State Smoking Ban applies. I heard many people say that does not apply to AA. They didn't give exact reasons why though. I wonder why? Others would say we were a club. So many times I heard that for the newcomers coming off alcohol we needed to remain smoking so we would not run off the newcomer. Last time I personally worked with a Hopeless Helpless Dying Drunk, they were more than willing not to smoke for one hour more than the person 12 stepping them. Huh! Now I think I remember what the word DENIAL is. The cute cartoon on left was done by Mike H. who lost a battle to LUNG CANCER in September 2007 after being diagnosed three weeks earlier. The caption says. "Man, I'm glad I don't use Drugs anymore. Arent You?" Mike H. 2000
